Flagstone is a natural rock stone with a special split structure. It is widely used in construction for external and internal cladding, it is used to lay stoves and fireplaces, and it is used to decorate walls and ceilings. The stone is used for paths, in landscape design, and is used for finishing work in the construction of swimming pools and ponds, playgrounds and flower beds, and alpine slides. The advantages of finishing with flagstone are resistance to frost, moisture, and wear resistance. This environmentally friendly material always looks natural and stylish, and is available in different shapes, colors, and textures. Paving facades with flagstone requires a special technology, where great importance is attached to preparation.
Preparation of the foundation consists of thoroughly cleaning the walls. Dirt and dust are removed from the surface, and any remains of old plaster and putty are removed. Cleaning should occur right down to the base of the masonry. If there are any irregularities, they are corrected by throwing on concrete mortar or knocking down protrusions. If the surface for facing the foundation is made of concrete, then it is certainly covered with concrete contact - otherwise the stone coating will not last long.
Attention is also focused on the wall material. If it is built of red brick, then the installation of a facade metal mesh is not required. If there is aerated concrete, foam block, gas silicate surface, the stone is installed only on the mesh. It is fixed using dowels at the rate of 10-25 fasteners per 1 sq.m.
Durable paving with natural stone can only be achieved if the temperature regime is observed during the work. It should be in the range from +5 to +30 degrees. When finishing outdoors in the cold season, the adhesive solution will freeze, as a result of which the flagstone will simply fall off the wall later. In the hot period, the heated surface does not contribute to the optimal hardening of the mixture when laying the flagstone, which leads to poor adhesion to the material.
Stone facades involve two main methods of work. The choice depends on the type of base material used, which is supplied in the form of stone itself and facade panels under the flagstone. Thus, decorative installation using the wet method of fastening and as part of a ventilated facade are distinguished.
