Installation of marble chips

The list of facade materials includes plaster with marble chips. It contains a mixture of natural stone chips of various fractions, for the connection of which a transparent or tinted substance based on acrylic, silicates, silicone is used. The size of the fraction of the elements determines the features of the textured surface coating. The main advantages of the material include increased resistance to moisture and external influences, a long service life, aesthetics of decorative design of the facade, excellent vapor permeability. The use of such plaster for the facade under the stone makes it possible to effectively mask wall defects, and if necessary, it can be easily washed with soft detergents.

How is marble chips installed?

Application of chips involves performing work in several stages. The preparatory process consists of assessing the condition of the surface and cleaning it from dirt and old coating. If such a need arises, cracks and holes on the facade need to be sealed, and the plane needs to be leveled for decorative plaster.

It is also necessary to pay attention to insulation. For this, foam plastic or mineral wool is used, on which a layer of adhesive is applied for reinforcement with a facade mesh. After this, the surface is thoroughly dried - the moisture level before the main work should be about 4-5%.

Further, the specifics of the technology for applying marble chips involve the following stages:

Priming the base

High adhesive properties are important for it. The substance is selected with the presence of quartz sand in the composition, due to which the surface roughness is achieved for better adhesion to marble facade plaster.

Toning the primer

It is advisable to add a pigment to the substance that is close in shade to the base color of the exterior finish. This way, it is possible to avoid the base showing through between the chips and ensure a uniform color of the surface.

Application and drying

The facade is treated with a prepared primer using a roller or brush. The drying time of the surface during facade finishing is 12-24 hours.

It is also important to pay attention to the preparation of the building mixture for work. Mosaic-type plaster is supplied to customers prepared in a paste-like state in buckets. Before application, the facade finishing mixture is carefully mixed in a container at low speeds of a construction mixer. If there is a recommendation from the manufacturer, it is permissible to add water in an amount of no more than 1-2% of the volume. Exceeding this parameter is strictly prohibited.

Specifics of applying marble chips

When facing the facade, a stainless steel spatula and a float are used. The coating is installed on a flat surface in the direction from the bottom up. The wet facade technology implies in this case a continuous process, without allowing visual joints and transitions.

To form the texture of the decorative coating, you should follow these recommendations:

  • After processing 1-2 m², when slightly drying, the surface is rubbed with a stainless trowel;
  • The hand with the float should move in one direction - up or in circles to compact the stone chips;
  • Strong pressure on the tool is not allowed to avoid damaging the layer of facade plaster.

When drying the coating, it should be protected from direct sunlight, rain, frost for 24-72 hours. In this case, it is recommended to use a protective mesh or film. Complete drying of the chips for the facade and the gain in strength of a durable coating occurs over several weeks.

Possible mistakes when finishing the facade with marble chips

If you follow the technology, you will get original facade solutions. However, it is worth knowing some points that lead to errors and the need to subsequently repair the facade:

  • incorrect preparation of the base;
  • ignoring or poor-quality application of the primer;
  • work in unsuitable weather conditions - the best temperature is from +5 to +25 degrees with humidity up to 80%;
  • uneven installation and grouting, leading to the appearance of stains and drips;
  • use of materials from different batches of products in finishing work on one plane;
  • failure to comply with the recommendations of the plaster manufacturer.

If you have doubts about your own abilities, it is better to seek help from the professionals of "RСС ALBA", who guarantee the quality of the result.
